December 15, 2017

Happy to announce that I will be briefing young soccer players in March 2018 on nutrition. Hands-on experiences and practical sport nutrition. That’s the way it works! 🙂

November 29, 2017

Great success for Bianca Feichtlbauer at the 2018 Worlds. After a long way back from injury she took the bronze medal! Well done!!

November 23, 2017

While winter sports athletes are about to start into their Olympic season, my cyclists are just back on their bikes to start their preparation for 2018. Again a great season coming up starting with the Tour Down Under. Now it’s about training and getting ready for the first race. Nutrition screenings look good so far!

November 6th, 2017

Mirjam Puchner had to undergo another surgery on her way back to competing. The bone fracture didn’t heal as expected. The focus now is on the knee, it will be the pacemaker for the comeback and we’ll make sure nutrition supports healing and building as well as possible.

October 26, 2017

A successful camp in Spain is over. The last few days focused on training and nutrition. What to eat when and how to fuel different training sessions. We also included some performance testing into the schedule. Hope this format will return again soon.

October 25, 2017

Walter Ablinger looks back to a successful 2017 season 2017. Ten wins is a nice result! Read here the recap of his season 2017.

October 17, 2017

Happy to announce that I will speak at the University of Utah on 4th Dec! Will be great to be back on campus and meet colleagues, students and other faculty members.

October 8, 2017

It’s almost certain now that Greg Van Avermaet will be this year’s winner of the World Tour ranking. Christopher Froome and other seem to have finished their season, yesterday’s Il Lombardia didn’t bring any further surprises, so it looks good for Greg. Would be a nice success for him and the whole BMC Racing Team. Happy for him.

October 5, 2017

After the successful World Championships, Thomas Podolan claimed the bronze medal at the European Championships. The Austrian climber finished third and had his spot on the podium. Olé!

October 2, 2017

Delighted to announce to be invited to Colorado to speak at the University of Colorado Springs. The topic of my visit in November is eating disorders in elite athletes. Looking forward to meeting cyclists, medical staff, students and other experts to discuss this topic future and look into how we as a group can do better to help the athletes.

September 24, 2017

Although changing into a new weight category (-61 kg) Alisa Buchinger keeps winning. She finished second in Istanbul, the first tournament where she competed in the new category. This is promising for the future.

September 18, 2017

Team Time Trial in Bergen at the World Championships 2017 and like last year the BMC Racing Team rode the second fastest time. Team Sunweb was the strongest team out on the 42.5 km long parcours. Nevertheless a great performance to be on the podium again.

September 7, 2017

Successful World Championships for Thomas Podolan. The climber from Salzburg finished 6th in his competition Bouldering.

August 19, 2017

What a great start into the Vuelta a Espana 2017. My BMC Racing Team claimed the victory of the opening team time trial. Let’s hope the upcoming stages will be as successful and some more victories will come.

August 2, 2017

Yap, the shooting team is strong! Bernhard Pickl is the new European Champion! Fantastic!

June 27, 2017

After a gold medal at the European Championships Alisa made it into the finals at the World Games as well. Although she lost the final, it’s another great result for her because you have to make it into the finals!

May 8, 2017

Karate European Championships in Turkey and a success for Alisa Buchinger. She’s coming back with a gold medal. Incredible the medal collection of Alisa…super happy for you, lady! 🙂

May 3, 2017

Markus Ragginger is continuing his rise in performance. After a successful early spring he finished 3rd in the Czech Republic.

April 10, 2017

That’s one of the greatest successes for the BMC Racing Team so far. Greg Van Avermaet won Paris Roubaix 2017. Woooow!!

March 26, 2017

Success for the shooting team! New personal best for OTC athlete Bernhard Pickl at the ISAS in Dortmund, Germany. Nice!

March 20, 2017

Great news from the Ministry of Health. I got accepted to the Training therapists list and am now an officially accredited training therapist. A very important step to show my work is high quality, evidence based. Even the Austrian ministry acknowledges my competences and knowledge.

March 19, 2017

In a few weeks the University of Salzburg will again hosts its Health Day. This year the theme ist less-stress@work. Being invited to join the team again, I will hold a workshop that focuses on stress-FREE eating. Hope to see many folks there again like in the past years.

March 15, 2017

The season is going very well so far. With the victory of Rohan Dennis in the ITT yesterday at Tirreno, we increased our number of wins to 13 so far. May this continue for a while. The spring has been the most successful so far. We’re heading into the right direction, it seems. The atmosphere is great and our riders are in good shape for the upcoming stage races and spring Classics.

March 13, 2107

Alisa Buchinger has another victory in her pocket! She won in Slovenia and also claimed the silver medal in the team which also included Thomas Kaserer. Robin Rettenbacher also performed well, finished in the top 5. Congrats to all OTC athletes!

March 9, 2017

Happy to announce that I will contribute to the World Water Day special of the Luxemburger Wort, the daily newspaper in Luxembourg. Water and hydration matter in sports. If you’ve a chance, grab a copy of the newspaper on 22 March 🙂

March 6, 2017

Ragginger Markus finished third at the U23 tournament in Kötzes. Seems like he’s on the right track. Great!

Andreas Tiefgraber, judoist at the OTC, is on a good way as well. The more important competitions are only coming up but the results so far have been promising. It’s about fine-tuning which includes nutrition.

February 27, 2017

Just home and already a phone call from the National radio – Radio Salzburg to join them for a program on exercise, nutrition and weight management. Meanwhile we already recorded the intro for the program, this upcoming Wednesday  I’ll be live on air in “Mittagszeit”.

February 25, 2017

The season ist really great so far. With win number 11 for the BMC Racing Team by Greg Van Avermaet it’s also the Olympic Road Champion who has let the rivals know that he’s strong and ready for a competitive season. In Omloop Het Nieuwsblad he was unbeatable. Hopefully this road of success continues!

February 24, 2017

Whoever has a change to grab the current Cycling Weekly magazine, will find a piece on nutrition support at the BMC Racing Team there. Was fun working on that article and sharing stuff about our team!

February 21, 2017

Robin Rettenbacher, karate at the Olympic TC Rif-Salzburg, made it into the top 5 at the Under 23 European Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria). Congrats Robin!

Also, Stephanie Bendrat won the Austrian national championships (60 m hurdles). congrats to her as well. 🙂

February 9, 2017

Mirjam Puchner crashed in the training run at the world championships 2017 in St. Moritz and broke her leg. All the best Mirjam.

My focus will shift to nutrition after surgery and support you the best way possible.

January 29, 2017

Stephanie Bendrat ran the 60 m hurdles in 8.15 sec and secured the limit for the European Championships. Nice success for the athlete from the Olympic TC. I’m happy for her.

January 24, 2017

Australia was worth a trip for the BMC Racing Team. Not only did Rohan Dennis and Miles Scotson take the national titles, we also had a successful Tour Down Under with Richie Porte taking the GC which puts the team and him into the lead of the World Tour Ranking. Nice start into 2017, I’d say…

December 5, 2016

No snow in sight and the water hasn’t really arrived yet but we are already thinking about the new season at BMC Racing Team. We soon start our training camp in Spain to open the new season and get ready for the first race which is Tour Down Under in January.

October 28, 2016

There’s nothing more wonderful than being on the very top. Alisa Buchinger managed to step up to the top at the home world championships in karate and made her dream come true. I was part of the worlds and supported the athletes from Salzburg all week long by cooking and catering to fuel their days. Was a great experience, the athletes enjoyed and appreciated it, and the result wasn’t bad either. Hopefully this success will continue in the new year!

September 24, 2016

Looking back to a great Sport Nutrition Day in Vienna where we had great national and international speakers. Now there’s one event left on the calendar for this year before I call it quits in regards to scientific conferences and meetings. Science and evidence based work are just so important for me and my work to provide the best service possible to my clients. Newcastle Upon Tyne is the final destination.

September 17, 2016

After a high you’ve often a low, Walter Ablinger experienced a low after a high at Rio Paralympics where he was left empty handed at the road race. The goal would have been a medal. Nevertheless congrats to Walter, you first have to win a silver medal in the TT. It’s not that easy!! Thomas Geierspichler had to give a w.o. due to illness. His games are over.

September 10, 2016

Found another article on the nutrition preparation for Rio Paralympics Ablinger und Geierspichler und ihre Ernährungsstrategie. Meanwhile the Games have started and Austrian athletes started their mission for a medal. Hopefully the first one will come soon. Go Austria!!

September 8, 2016

The tips Rohrbach wrote in their current issue about the Paralympics and my sport nutrition support.

September 1, 2016

Soon they will take off to fly to Rio and give their best at the 2016 Paralympic Games. Walter Ablinger and Thomas Geierspichler have been prepared for their key events in 2016. We had the final meetings this week and it seems those guys are ready for Rio. Will be great to see them race and hopefully take a medal. Good luck to both and all the Austrian Paralympic team!! Go Austria!!!

August 10, 2016

Not a bad result at the Olympic Games in Rio. We can be really proud and happy 🙂

Congrats mister!!

Rio 2016 ITT

August 1, 2016

It was a great workshop in Vienna with all the Austrian Paralympic Team for Rio 2016. A nice summary on the ÖPC website gives insights into what happened there. The focus now is on the last weeks building up to the games and preparing the best way possible for the D day.

July 12, 2016

Although the Tour de France is already over a week old, many people are still wondering: what do cyclists eat when they are competing at the Tour? BBC’s Sarah Lienard asked me and my colleagues that question. Read our comments here What do Tour de France Cyclists eat?

July 9, 2016

Oh Vienna…plenty of interesting sessions at the ECCS conference and it’s hard to pick the right one and not miss another interesting presentation.

Overall the meeting has been great, some new ideas, some different approaches which make you rethink your own approach and work. And there’s this great link between science and practical application…

July 3, 2016

The scientific wave caught me, the Science & Cycling meeting in Caen is done, my talk was successful and in a few days I’ll be in Vienna attending this year’s ECSS conference. Because I want my work to be evidence based and evidence based work is key element of my philosophy, attending such meetings is very important for me. That you run into old friends at those meetings too makes them even greater! Really looking forward to the ECSS!

June 14, 2016

After being at the Critérium du Dauphiné for a few days, I’ve been in Switzerland at the Tour de Suisse with the BMC Racing Team. What’s it like to manage the nutrition in a cycling team? Find out here

June 1, 2016

I certainly didn’t expect that but now I am already part of the adventure. I got a call from the LUNEX University in Luxembourg where they are starting a Master program in Sport Physiotherapy. I’ve the pleasure to cover nutrition and be part of the faculty. It is going to be for sure another great experience abroad with many interesting people. I am very happy and looking forward to this new chapter in my professional life.

May 30, 2016

What a great success for Walter Ablinger at his home race. He’s on track for Rio it seems…. Victory at the Paracgcling Tour. Congrats Walter!!

May 29, 2016

I still remember the day when I was in Vienna to brief the Austrian paralympians before the Games in London. Now it’s Rio time and I will be back to instruct and brief our Paralympics team for Rio on nutrition. The invitation to that event arrived and I accepted already.

April 19, 2016

A few days ago I had my first lecture for the Personal Fitness Academy in Salzburg. I saw many motivated people in the classroom who want to become successful in the fitness world. Was a great afternoon and there should be a few more to come.

Besides that the preparation for the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France has entered the intense phase. Although especially the Tour may still seem far away, for me and my colleagues from the BMC Racing Team it’s already around the corner. Soon the riders will roll out on stage 1…

March 20, 2016

After the successful evening in Luxembourg, I found myself on a page in the local Luxembourg newspaper which talked about my presentation. One whole page just about me!! 🙂

Luxemburger Wort

March 16, 2016

It’s nailed down. I’ll be part of the presenter group at this year’s Science & Cycling conference in Caen, France, before the 2016 edition of the Tour de France. My talk will cover the aspects of nutrition for athletes on the go and nutrition and sleep. Should be another great experience for me.

February 24, 2016

The talk today in Luxembourg was a great experience. I didn’t expect to see so many people but the room was so crowded that people had to listen from outside in the hallway. After the talk coaches, athletes, scientists and other attendees gave lots of positive feedback.

February 3, 2016

And after the professional team I have the pleasure to also work with the developmental team of the BMC Racing team. Looking forward to the camp. Whereas in the past I’ve been focusing solely on the pros, I will support the young riders and give first insights into sports nutrition for cyclists. The camp is only a few days away and this is also the start of the 2016 season. Will for sure be a funny and great experience…

January 29, 2016

It just arrived in my mailbox and I’m happy to post it online so that people spread the word. Come and check out the event on Feb 24!

November 18, 2015

What a pleasure. Next week I will be in Salt Lake City and during my stay I have the honor to meet the President of the University of Utah, David W. Pershing, in his office. Will be great to catch up since we first met last August in Salzburg.

November 13, 2015

It got confirmed. I will return to Austria’s national center of women’s soccer in St. Pölten. I got invited to talk about nutrition and discuss different nutrition topics with the youth teams there. I am looking forward to meeting those girls in January 2016!

October 17, 2015

Nice surprise! The BORG Bad Leonfelden asked me to come and speak to their students about nutrition. A former student colleague of mine is teacher there and invited me to cover nutrition. Late November I will go to Upper Austria and we will have a great workshop together. Should be fun!

October 13, 2015

Wow! And after the invitation I received already the confirmation in my mailbox. This means I will travel to Luxembourg next year to speak in front of physical therapists about nutrition and its role in rehabilitation. This talk will be part of a pre-olympic event at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg. Should be exciting. I am really happy about this invitation!

October 9, 2015

Two great days at the Klinikum Bad Hall are over. Two days full of anthropometrics. It was a great experience and a lot of positive energy that I brought home from those two days. The patients had fun and so did I. The next anthropometrics session in Bad Hall will follow, I am sure…

September 29, 2015

It was fun in Berlin at the PowerBar Sport Nutrition Conference. While others were recovering from the Berlin marathon, we met to talk for two days about current sports nutrition topics and research. And it was fun.

And they did it again! BMC Racing Team is the old and new team UCI time trial world champion. Very proud of the whole team who worked for that success!!!

July 30, 2015

July was a month of success for a couple of athletes.

Gernot Rumpler won silver at the European Championships in Maribor and added his name to the medalists’ list in shooting.

Lisa Mitterbauer is national champion in cross-country and already in early July got the Olympian B-limit at the world cup race in Lenzerheide.

And Anita Haudum finished among the top riders at the Salzkammergut Trophy 2015.

Congrats to all the athletes!

July 27, 2015

This year’s Tour de France is over and it ended with three stage wins and one day in yellow for my BMC Racing team. There were ups and downs but the most difficult moment was for sure when Tejay van Garderen had to abandon the race due to illness.

July 25, 2015

Abllinger Walter will compete at this year’s world championships in Nottwil (Switzerland). The preparation went well as he also confirmed in a recent interview. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for him.

June 26, 2015

Fantastic news. What a surprise and honor. I’ll be on air in the Upper Austrian radio ORF Oberösterreich on Monday to talk about nutrition. Yay!!

June 25, 2015

The ECSS Congress is on and it’s been an amazing congress so far. Today was the day for the expert panel at the PowerBar boot and it was fun to be there. Lot’s of questions from the audience! A snapshot from the PowerBar corner.

What an epic race yesterday in Villach at the Alpe Adria Giro 2015. Hail, rain, thunderstorm, 6°C on the Vrsic Pass. And a third & fourth place for sportnutrix feat. sportrix. Congratulations to both!! Great performance.

June 19, 2015

I am sad to communicate that one of my athletes whom I have worked with for several years died in an accident today. Manfred Putz was a great athlete and a great person.

April 26, 2015

Today is not only the day of Liege-Bastogne-Liège 2015 but also the day of the Vita Club Radmarathon. Anita sportrix and I participated and the results are promising for the next races. You can be beaten by ladies like the ones who finished in front of us today. And our next race is being planned already… 🙂

April 19, 2015

The 2015 edition of the Linz Marathon was on today and for me it was the nutritionist’s role to support the athletes and provide them with fuel during the race. All did a great job and finished their runs. Congrats to Anita and Andrea! Nice run 🙂

April 17, 2015

Athletes often ask about the concept of “train low, compete high”. Now PowerBar, one of the BMC Racing Team’s sponsors asked me about my thoughts. The interview is online now and you can read what I think about this concept. New trend: train low

March 25, 2015

It’s done. He made it. Manfred Putz finished the third 1000 km non-stop project. After the circuit in Germany and the route across the Alps Salzburg – Nice he completed 1000 km crossing the Atacama desert. Great performance. Congrats. Before others speak up, they first need to accomplish what you did.

March 19 2015

The university sport institute (USI) Salzburg is trying to find out how to lose the extra kilos that we put on during winter to get ready for the summer. Hints how to manage the diet came from me and can be found in the Newsletter 03/2015.

What a great event in Udine yesterday. I can look back to a great evening with a room filled to the very last spot. So many questions and such positive feedback. Many thanks to Gianpiero Klancic, an ultra-cyclist himself and one of the athletes I follow and consult.

February 19, 2015

My next destination is Udine in Italy and I really look forward to the talk tomorrow night. It will be my first such event in Italy. Cyclists, coaches, parents and all those interested in the topic will hear about nutritional needs of the ultra-endurance athlete. First time in Italy…there’s always a first time…

February 9, 2015

Here we go. He has done it! Rohan Dennis from the BMC Racing Team broke the hour record and is now the current record holder with 52.491 km. I am very proud to be part of this, it was a great week with a great athlete and a great team. Fantastic!! If you want to read about the last week and what happened there, take a look at my blog entries News from the hour.

January 27, 2015

Confirmed! Italy will see me soon when I will come to talk in Udine about nutrition for the ultra-endurance event. If you are interested join us there on February 20th. Check out my calendar for more details!

Time to say good-bye to the old year and get ready for the new one. Today was the Silversterlauf in Linz and it was a great possibility to finish off 2014 by being active before continuing the active lifestyle. I’ll stay active in 2015! 2014 was a great, successful, important, demanding year full of experiences. Thanks to all who have been part of my 2014. All the best, health and success for 2015. Prosit 2015!

December 2, 2014

Winter is the time where many people wonder about how to avoid weight gain. Christmas means tons of cookies and pastry and good, rich food but people ask questions like: How can I avoid weight gain? What di I need to pay attention to? Does a low carb-diet help? There’s an article on fitness.at with some of my suggestions for the winter and Christmas time Schlank über die Feiertage  (in German).

Similarly to the generell public there’s athletes who change their training program in the winter months and wonder if there’s a need to change the diet too. They want to know the answer to questions such as: My training differs from my summer training, do I need to change my diet? Do I have to change something? There’s an article on Nutrition for winter training on fitness.at as well Ernährung in der Trainingspause (in German).

Enjoy your winter training!

November 4, 2014

Nice surprise. There will be an interview session some time in November in collaboration with the IFFB of the University of Salzburg and Pzwei. Should be fun…

November 3, 2014

Sometimes you have to try new things and do something different. I decided to try something and bring something to Austria which we have been missing in the past. I am planning to bring an ISAK course level 1 to Austria because I think it this is something sport scientists, nutrition experts, PT’s and other medical staff can use in their work with athletes. The course should be held sometime in early 2015.

November 2, 2014

Two quite interesting meetings are coming up and, hence, fill the time where road cycling is still in the offseason before the intense preparation for 2015 kicks off. Planning with BMC for the 2015 season is ongoing, yet I use this time also to attend the meetings in Salzburg (sports cardiology) and Portsmouth, England (anthropometry). Later I will implement in the work with my athletes what I will have learned there and support them hopefully better than before.

October 21, 2014

It’s an honor to be part of the Austrian society of Sport Nutrition (ÖGSE) but now I am also part of the expert panel of the society. I got asked to join the panel and of course I accept this invitation with great pleasure. We’ll keep working on moving this new society forward!!

October 16, 2014

Nice evening session at the ice rink with the figure skaters. Now Salzburg’s athletes know what’s important for great performance and good recovery. At least the kick-off is done!

October 13, 2014

Great weekend again for the athletes of the Olympic training center. Alisa Buchinger won gold at the Karate Premier League tournament and seems ready for the next big event – World Championships in Germany. Ready to go there with self confidence and trust in her own performance. Congrats Alisa! Newspaper article here

October 5, 2014

Good news: on Oct 15 we’ll discuss questions such as What’s good to eat during the day? What should I eat after school? What during training? Do I need a breakfast? The Austrian figure skating federation has invited me for a talk. The athletes are training in the Olympic canter in Salzburg and we’ve come to an agreement to expand this to involve the parents as well.

September 28, 2014

Fantastic news for all those interested in sports nutrition in Austria. Since a few months we have our Austrian Sport Nutrition Society. Check out the website of the ÖGSE – hopefully I can add my part to see sports nutrition grow and become still bigger in Austria.

September 21, 2014

Fantastic news, great performance, congrats to the whole BMC Racing Team. TTT World champion 2014 in Ponferrada. What a great day!! Happyyyyy 🙂

September 20, 2014

Great day in Vienna at the first Fachtag für Sporternährung. Great to have been part of this and to have been able to contribute to the event. Next year’s sport nutrition day is already under construction and I hope I can make it to attend it again.

September 8, 2014

Successful weekend for many athletes, among them Alisa Buchinger, athlete training at the Olympic training center in Rif/Salzburg. She won the silver medal at a tournament in Turkey. Seems she’s right on for the world championships later this year!

September 3, 2014

The winter is coming and it is important to check the body like you check your car every year. To be sure you are ready for the winter, I am currently working together with Anita Haudum on a workshop where active people can join us to learn about how to check fitness and nutrition and get ready for the next months. Stay tuned!

September 1, 2014

Manfred Putz made the impossible  possible and finished his adventure Salzburg-Davos-Nice on a hand bike with success. Given all the meters of climbing it was a hard tour but thanks to his motivation and determination, and a great team around him he made it. So that’s 2 out of 5 tours now for him. Congratulations Manfred!

August 20, 2014

The Vuelta is just a few days away and when you have the pleasure to work with one of the top Spanish cyclists, then it’s no surprise that the Spanish media contact you to find out some secrets about Samuel Sánchez. No wonder my name pops up on TV and in some articles, like in this one  Samuel Sánchez: “Somos unas auténticas máquinas de comer”

August 19, 2014

Today I headed to Zell am See to meet with the shooting athletes to talk about nutrition. The next big event for them are the European Championships and we wanted to make sure the Austrian team is doing everything to get the best result possible. The presence there at this meeting today was overwhelming. Thanks all 🙂

July 30, 2014

With all the adventures and races going on in my life, people heard of it also in Upper Austria. The weekly magazine Tips dedicated a page of its week 31 issue to my work and talked about my job and what I do when I am outside of Austria.

Manfred Putz just finished his RAAM, but after a short break he already has his next project on the agenda. The distance between Salzburg and Nizza is 1000 km and he wants to do those on his handbike, non-stop of course. Planning has started and I have started my reflections to help him perform at his best. For me of course nutrition is one part of the success!

Despite the world of cycling is looking to England and France for the 101st Tour de France, there is another tour starting as well and with its demanding course it will be hard for the peloton too: Österreich Rundfahrt 2014. Because the BMC RacingTeam will be among the starters, I have been planning for this event and it has been quite some fun so far, It’s always special to work in the home country and to see the team compete on home soil where all the roads are so familiar. Find more information about the Tour of Austria here and about the BMC Team on the team website.

Great feedback at the university in Hall in Tirol after my lecture on sport nutrition. Still marked with abrasions after my bike accident I discussed recent topics in the field of sport nutrition with the students and because they want to learn more about it, the university and I agreed on an additional date for later this year. I will go back to Hall in December for a workshop to give the students the chance to find out more about applications in sport nutrition. Looking forward to it, it will be fun, I am sure!

Successful weekend for a few of my athletes! Tom Frühwirth and Manfred Putz finished the Race Across America (RAAM) 2014 and made it on their hand cycle ergometers to Annapolis. Another successful finisher competed in the Race Across the Alps (RATA) 2014 and sportrix Anita Haudum did a great race at Alpe Adria where she would have finished on the podium without that accident that made her lose a significant amount of time. Congratulations to all of them!

A great Health Day at the University of Salzburg is about to finish. It was a wonderful experience to be part of it. People enjoyed both, the cooking show and the nutrition talk in the classroom. Many thanks to the University of Salzburg for the invitation. It was fun! If you want to know what the setting was like, check out the Flickr-galery.

Those working with active people should be active themselves. Today it was the perfect day for the Dolomitenrundfahrt 2014 which included a 112 km course that started and finished in Lienz. Under the Austrian sun it turned into a nice bike marathon with a pleasant result, 18th in category women. With the company of Anita, sportrix, it felt even more pleasant.

Tom Frühwirth and Manfred Putz took off today to fly to the US for the Race Across Amerika! Even there’s still a few days until the start, you can feel the tension already. Last preparations for the race are being done and then it’s all about pushing and keeping the hand bike rolling. If you want to learn more about them, check out the ultrahandbike duo! There will also be updates on their way across the US at the RAAM 2014 on that website.

We are in the second week now with the Giro d’Italia and so far it has been going pretty well for the BMC Racing Team and Cadel Evans. On the second rest day the staff had time for a big smile in front of the camera. Hopefully the good times continue…everybody will try the best to make that happen and bring the smile to Trieste where this year’s Giro ends on June 1st.

We always work with very active people but sometimes we ourselves have to be active too. Today was the day of the Salzburg Marathon 2014. Despite the suboptimal preparation and uncertain start until the very last minute due to an injury, I went to the start line and started the half marathon. Eventually my will was stronger than the pain and I made it over the 21.1 km. It was my first competition after 6 months without sport, so definitely something special crossing the finish line. Anita, my sister, did the same half marathon and after her successful marathon in Linz a few weeks ago, she was petty strong in the half marathon today as well. Marathon twins in action!

Now it’s time to jump on the bike – bike season is on while running season is closed.

April 9, 2014

The University of Salzburg will hold another Health Day this year for all their staff. On June, 11, 2014 Sportnutrix will be there as well and share information on how to eat healthy and well balanced, but also on how to put this into practice. Check out what this will look like on your plate!

April 6, 2014

Congratulations to all the runners who finished the marathon today, congratulations to Walter Ablinger, Günter and Anita. I guess somebody was going home with a big smile on the face today – me too 😉

April 5, 2014

Tomorrow’s the big day for many runners in Linz with the Borealis Marathon starting at 9.30 am. More than 18.000 people will try to finish in one of the events held. This ear sportnutrix will be there as well to support athletes while they’re running at their best to complete the distance in a great manner. I’m excited and looking forward to a great event tomorrow!

March 25, 2014

Thousands of runners completed the marathons in Rome and Milan last Sunday. In a few days there will be thousands of runners in Austria who will be competing in the marathon in Linz or Vienna. Before such a long race it’s important to taper the training and to change the diet to replenish your glycogen stores. Some thoughts on how to do that are listed in my blog Carbo loading (German only).

February 17, 2014

It’s Olympia time but not only due to the games in Sochi, many people talk about dietary supplements. Many athletes, among them also many recreational athletes, consume more supplements than ever. This article will highlight some of the facts, also that there’s quite some risk linked to the use of such products (Salzburger Nachrichten, 17.2.2014).

Holiday season is over and athletes are back to their usual training days, some leaving for one or the other camp in the warmer spots of the world. Manfred Putz is also going to head South but before he takes off, we sat down and talked about his camp and nutrition for a successful training camp. If you also wonder sometimes what’s important when leaving for a training camp, check out the blog and I’m sure you’ll find some useful ideas for your camp!

January 9, 2014

The Games in Rio are only in 2016 but time runs and we’re already looking into the preparation for this event. That’s why I had another meeting with Walter Ablinger to discuss possible strategies. More meetings to come and some are already scheduled!

January 7, 2014

It’s not always necessary to buy a vitamin/mineral supplement to boost the immune system. No single nutrient can actually boost the immune system. Better to have some well-balanced meals with a lot of fruits and veggies and use all the foods the kitchen is offering you. This way you get ready for the winter! An article in the Salzburger nachrichten from January 7 listed some foods that can help to fight cold and flu.

The last conference this year took place in Newcastle and it was a nice, little conference with the best of the best in the field of sport nutrition. Days have been long, takes have been interesting and we discussed many old and new things. David Costill on the first and Dame Kelly Holmes on the second day also made the evening events really interesting and great. Check out some pictures from the conference  on flickr!

December 16, 2013

We’ve had a great time here in Spain with the most part of the BMC Racing Team riders. The training went well, the weather was ok and around workouts there were lots of things going on in nutrition as well. Meetings, tests and experiments to make sure 2014 will be a successful season.

November 30, 2013

I’ve been in Utah nor for a couple of days and before the BMC Racing team arrived for some initial testing, I had time to walk through Salt Lake. The testing will be the kick-off into the new season, assuring that our riders are healthy and ready for the new season. After Salt Lake City I will di my last two trips for this year, one to Spain for the training camp, one to England for a sport nutrition conference.

November 20, 2013

It was time to speak at HAKZWEI Salzburg and it was a nice morning in school where the topic was nutrition and sports. Having read about Austrian youth and the increase in overweight youth, I hope my words found their way straight into the ears of those students listening to my talk.

November 13, 2013

Interesting symposium in Northern Germany. It was worth going to Münster and hear about bike fitting, the athlete and his problems. Also, the many new connections and ideas made it to a successful business trip to Northern Germany.

November 8, 2013

Next week I’ll be in Germany for two days to learn and hear about bike fitting and performance testing in cycling. The focus will be on sport science! Let’s hope this will be a great symposium!

November 6, 2013

Surprise on the phone. I received a call today from a student from 2. HAK Salzburg. They’re doing a project that focuses on nutrition and exercise “Ernährungs- und sportbewusstes Leben” and they asked me to come and be the nutrition expert on their activity day. This means my tour through the schools of Salzburg continues. In 2 weeks I’ll be right there, in 2. HAK Salzburg, and talk  about nutrition!

November 3, 2013

After a few phone calls and emails we figured out when and where I would speak at the University of Utah. I’m happy to announce that on 2nd December I will speak at the University and also meet with students from the CMP with Sports Nutrition Concentration. I am very pleased and honored to be invited and I look forward to be back in Utah very soon!

October 29, 2013

Wonderful news! Before we start 2014 I will go to Salt Lake City (UT) to speak at the University of Utah! We still need to work on the details but it should all work out fine for me to come to Utah and visit the U of U campus before going back to the BMC Racing Team riders and focusing on the upcoming season. I received and read the invitation from Utah!

The best of Salzburg’s youth athletes were what I focused on all day today! A great crowd with huge interest turned my presentation in SSM Salzburg Akademiestraße and Christian Doppler Gymnasium into a great first part of a sport nutrition project with Salzburg’s youth athletes. More steps together will follow!

October 18, 2013

With today’s presentation of the BMC Racing Team roster 2014 ended my first season with the cycling team. Looking back, it was a great and interesting year that gave me also many opportunities to learn and make new experiences in the world of cycling. Nutrition matters because the wrong thing at the wrong time can not only make you lose your race but also leave you in grand disappointment. The team presentation was already a kick-off for the preparation for the next season and I am looking forward to a great year with a great team and a great BMC family!

September 26, 2013

For quite some time now I’ve been offering a new service, anthropometrics, for athletes. Some often wonder why this is important or what is the advantage of doing skinfolds. Check out services for brief info or contact me directly to find out more!

September 18, 2013

Today I got a surprise email from the ÖRSV. They want me to join them on their final event and to talk to young athletes about sport nutrition and its importance in an athletes life.

September 16, 2103

Today finished this year’s Vuelta a Espana in Madrid and it was a great race and a great experience. The Grands Tours are over for this year but the next race with the BMC Racing Team is already around the corner. We’re headed into Northern Europe!

September 9, 2013

Great news! I was approached by the nutrition association to present at two meetings in Austria in 2014 and talk about different aspects of sport nutrition. Check out the calendar for more infos on these meetings!

September 7, 2013

After a great and successful Summer School at the UMIT in Hall/Tirol, my next stop was Italy where the BMC team prepared for the TTT of this year’s worlds. It’s a very importance race for the team and. hence, the whole team were really focused in the past few days there in Italy. Hopefully, we made some important steps and covered the basics for a successful TTT on September 22 at the worlds in Florence!

August 20, 2013

The summer is almost over but the cycling season not. In a few days there’s the kick off to this year’s edition of the Vuelta a Espana and this time I will be part of the Grand Tour in Spain. I’m really excited and I’m really looking forward to it. Of course, I wouldn’t mind celebrating some wins with the BMC team in Spain. The race is tough but we’ll have a strong team!. Vamos BMC!!!

August 3, 2013

Meeting with the US national track and field team dietitian. The US team spent the time before the worlds in Moscow here in Austria. Since nutrition is important and athletes need to meet their needs, it’s good to have a local colleague available who helps you out. That’s what I did for the US team in Linz. Great to make new friends, great to see the US team train.

July 9, 2013

It couldn’t have gone better!!! Three wins in a row in Austria with Mathias Frank even back-to-back wins on stage 4 & 5! That was an amazing race week with BMC at home in Austria!

June 29, 2013

The Tour of Austria starts tomorrow and I’m really looking forward to support the BMC racing team with my knowledge for a whole week here at home. Let’s hope there will be some great finishes for my guys!

June 21, 2013

Unfortunately, the 1000 km adventure was over after only a few kilometers. Due to some problems with the German police and due to safety issues, Manfred had to stop his attempt. He will try to on a different date in a different place with the same motivation. Stay tuned!

June 20, 2013

1000 km im Handbike“. So we’re on the way to Hamburg where Manfred Putz is going to start is race against the clock. On his hand bike he wants to do 1000 km in only 24 hours and do a new world record. The team is motivated, he is ready, we are ready. Let the 1000 km begin!!

June 10, 2013

While I keep traveling with the BMC team to more races, I’m also working on a project with Manfred Putz, a hand biker whom I’ve supported already last year at the Peakbreak. Now he wants to become the new world record holder of the fastest time to do 1080 km across Germany, starting in Hamburg on Friday, June 21, and finishing in Munich on Sunday, June 23. More infos to follow!

Some impressions from this year’s Critérium du Dauphiné. There was a little bit of everything…cold, warm, wet, sunny but in the end I left under nice sunshine. Check out the photos her Critérium du Dauphiné 2013.

May 31, 2013

Next trip ahead: on June 2 it’s the kick off of the Critérium du Dauphiné. The weather doesn’t seem to change so, again, it’s better to pack the winter clothes for the first week of June. Crazy spring…crazy weather!! Roster for the race is here

A few days before the US championships I was interviewed by an US journalist who wanted to know more about nutrition for cyclists. Read what we talked about here: Fueling the ride

May 15, 2013

The Giro d’Italia is on its way through Italy and riders as well as staff are doing all they can to survive in this very demanding stage race. I try to help them from home and coordinate the food and the organisation of their diet. But yesterday I made a trip to Italy to say hi to my BMC guys because the Giro was very close to Austria. Before stopping by at the finish, I did the climb myself and enjoyed the Giro feeling under the Italian sun.

Check out some impressions from the 10th Giro d’Italia stage here

Mai 14, 2013

A very interesting project with two incredible athletes took place last weekend at the Race Around Slovenia. Frühwirth Thomas and Putz Manfred finished their race in 55 hours and 17 minutes. We did some planning beforehand to make sure they eat the right things and the right amount. Nevertheless it was raining (and most of the time really heavy rain!!!), they did great and had no major problems. Congratulations to both guys!!! Read about their future projects on their website Ultrahandbikeduo.

April 28, 2013

It’s not always the big races that are important or to put it the other way round: small races are as important as big races. This weekend I spent some time at two races in Tuscany and it was great to be there with the team and work and do whatever was needed to make the BMC guys perform well. Taylor finished 2nd in the Giro della Toscana. I also had some great experiences while I was heading from the start to the feed zone. Read the (Italian) note here.

April 11, 2013

Interesting trip to the bakery of one of the best bakers in Belgium! And I didn’t only watch him work, we actually worked together and made some bars. Check out the impressions from my day in Izegem here

March 20, 2013

Great evening yesterday in Salzburg with coaches and parents of SSM Salzburg’s young athletes. Many came to hear about sports nutrition, take notes and discuss questions. This talk was only the kick-off – there will be more appointments and projects with SSM Salzburg already in this school year!

March 14, 2013

Paris – Nice and Tirreno Adriatico are behind us. It’s been a great experience with two great, tough and demanding races. The cool, wet weather didn’t make it any easier for the riders. Now there are only a few days time to recover because the next races are already around the corner with one of them being Milano Sanremo on March 17.

March 7, 2013

More talks ahead! There will be another talk in March besides my stop at SSM Salzburg. The other talk covers “Healthy eating and effective, healthy weight loss”. Means that there is plenty of work to do in-between races!!

March 1, 2013

More BMC races on the agenda!  Paris-Nizza and Tirreno Adriatico are ahead of us and I look forward to making it to Italy. Finally Italy!!

February 25, 2013

There will be a talk on Nutrition for youth athletes in March. Parents, coaches and athletes are invited to join me in Salzburg at SSM Salzburg to learn about sport nutrition. Check out the calendar for more infos.

February 16, 2013

Lots of fun on the tv-set! I hope participants and people in front of the tv can find some new and good answers when we talked about nutrition for cyclists who participate in races such as Salzkammergut Trophy.

Some snapshots from the set are on Flickr in a gallery.

February 12, 2013

I’ll be guest in the TV-show about “Mission Salzkammergut-Trophy” on Salzkammergut-Fernsehen. A couple of cyclists are preparing for this year’s Salzkammergut-Trophy and need some useful tips on nutrition for a cyclist. My recommendations will be recorded on Saturday, Feb 16 and will be aired next week.

February 10, 2013

The Tour Mediterranéen is over and the time did really well. The race was not well organized, but we found our way through…If Marco Pinotti hadn’t crashed, the resumé would be even better. Hopefully his healing process is going well.

For me it’s time to go back home to Austria where some more talks and work are waiting.

February 9, 2013

Nutrition talk at Universal. Since the carnival is almost over and Lent is just around the corner, people start thinking about their strategies to lose weight in these upcoming 40 days. There are also some companies that want to support their employees to lose weight and stay healthy. Universal is one example and they invited me to give a talk to their employees about healthy eating and weight loss. So on Feb 13, 2013 I will give a talk and give them some advices on weight management.

February 8, 2013

In the middle of the Tour Med and after a surprising rest day (stage was cancelled due to security issues) there are two more stages ahead of us. Since those are quite long and hard, recovery will play an important part because what’s happening in the time after a stage is crucial for the following stage. After Marco Pinotti’s crash in the time trial, he’s out of the race due to broken ribs. He’s on his way back home and I wish him a good and fast recovery so that we see him back on the bike very soon.

There’s a lot to do in France. It’s not summer yet but quite cold with temps around 6 °C midday.

February 2, 2013

In a few days we are heading to the Tour Mediterranéen in France. It’s going to be my first race with the BMC Racing Team as their team nutritionist. It’s not the only reason why I look forward to this race. I’ve been to races before but the perspective is a different now that I am working with a team behind the scene. There’s also some responsibility besides the joy to be there. It’s also my decision and job to manage the food.

Newsflash of the Olympic Training Center Salzburg-Rif regarding my new job at BMC Racing:

Judith Haudum to BMC

January 11, 2013

Great team presentation at the BMC concept store in Nazareth today. After all BMC riders got finally introduced to the team’s new approach in nutrition, we headed to Eke for the team presentation. Almost 100 journalists came to see the new BMC racing team 2013. It was a great afternoon and we’re all happy with how things went. The next stop now is Spain where a part of the team will be doing a training camp.

Here’s some impressions from the team presentation

January 7, 2013

So here it is. The new chapter BMC racing is about to start tomorrow when I arrive in Belgium where the BMC Racing team 2013 will be presented to the media and the public. It’s going to be the official kick-off for the new season, but there’s already been a lot going on behind the scenes. For me it’s the first personal contact with the riders and the BMC staff after a mostly electronic contact so far. It’ll be great!

December 23, 2012

It’s been a long year and it’s almost over. It’s been full of travel, races, people I got to know and/or help out, and little/big surprises. Starting with the YOG in Innsbruck, 2012 had a great start and with the new job with BMC Racing the end is even better… I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Keep on running… Judith.

December 22, 2012

Great days in Linz with the youth athletes of the Olympic training center to talk about nutrition, common issues with energy balance and race food. It was fun with these guys!

December 16, 2012

In 2013 I’ll join the WorldTour. Big races and not so big ones, Classics and Grand Tours, off days and training camps. And, of course, lots of adventures. Looking forward to a new chapter of my life!

December 15, 2012

Even though it looks like vacation it’s not. While some BMC racing team riders do intervals and climbs, others sit in the hotel room to work and talk about nutrition, lactate, training and other important aspects of cycling…bummer.

Talk on nutrition in cycling at BMC training camp

November 13, 2012

Life’s full of surprises and the message I received today was another biiig surprise. Paolo Aste, a former Italian RAAM-finisher, told me about his plans for 2013 and they seem quite ambitious. I just want to point out some details: 5300 km, 12 days, 63000 m altitude difference. Calls for another adventure. I will update you on how this project goes and if this will be another adventure for me as well…

November 10, 2012

Yesterday I had the chance, together with other speakers from Austria, Germany and Switzerland, to talk about sports nutrition. I had a very positive impression of what was offered and what was going on. In discussions that followed my talk I got some quite positive feedback and I hope this conference could help to push sports nutrition forward, to bring sports dietitians together and to help make it more known in Austria. Time will show.

November 7, 2012

After a promising meeting in Upper Austria it was quiet again in Linz at the Olympic training center but now I’m back to introduce good sports nutrition. Until the end of 2012 I will be in Linz for some more meets and talks, so I’ll keep on running back and forth between Neusiedler- and Bodensee and beyond!

November 5, 2012

Before we jump into 2013 I have some interesting and intense days coming up. Besides my work in Salzburg and my classes at the Universities of Hall/Tirol and Salzburg I will also give a talk in Vienna and head back to Stams for another workshop. Also, I will cross the border and head to Northern Europe…makes me think of a song by Lucio Battisti “Sì, viaggiare…”!

October 16, 2012

We had another workshop in Stams this week and it seems we are on the right track. We get to know each other better every time we meet, I really think we’re on the right track and if we hand in there we can make something really big out of it. It just takes time and patience, of course, but I think we can make it! Next stop in Stams is on November 12!

October 8, 2012

Today I got an interesting message from Italy. Giorgio Murari, finisher of the Race around Austria 2012 (where I supported Rainer Popp), asked me whether I was interested in helping and consulting him in the future. Thinking of the sport he’s doing, I guess some great new adventures are ahead of me…

September 30, 2012

It was a hurry to get the poster done and printed on time but today I was finally able to present one of my project to participants of the World Congress of Sport s Medicine, FIMS 2012, in Rome. It was interesting to meet so many sport physicians and hear their point of view. It was wonderful though, to get the chance to meet some familiar faces again.

September 29, 2012

Great race and season ending in Lombardy at the Giro di Lombardia. As in the last 2 years I was at (and somehow in) the race and met with BMC chief medical officer Max Testa and some of his BMC colleagues to discuss several questions and problems.

September 22, 2012

Almost ready for the last UCI race of the season, Il Lombardia, in Italy. After the race I will head south to Rome to present my results to international group of sport physicians at the FIMS 2012. Before I travel to Italy, I will do my last bike marathon of the season. Wonderful 161 km are ahead of me and make me ride through the Sunday.

September 19, 2012

Just came back from our first workshop in Stams. I had a great time with the students and they all experienced individual differences in sweat rate and fluid replacement. Since we already fixed the next dates for more workshops and several topics we should work on, it’s time to move on and get started with the workshop preparation.

September 16, 2012

On September 19 we will start a collaboration with Skigymnasium Stams. All first year students will learn basic on macro and micron nutrients. The first workshop will also be kind of getting to know each other and make first experiences with the students and staff for the further steps.

September 8, 2012

Very interesting and special workshop today in Krems with cancer patients and their families. There were lots of questions in the air but I tried to cover them all with my talk and when – at the end of a long day – I went back home, having in mind some happy and thankful smile, I was quite happy.

August 20, 2012

Rainer also made it to St. Georgen. After 5 days 9 hours 44 minutes he crossed the finish line (personal best!) and made it to 13th place in the solo rider classification. Congrats, Rainer!

In general it was a great experience and pleasure with all the riders, to see them perform well and to give them a hand with my nutrition knowledge. Also, the trip & discovery of Austria were a wonderful “side event” for me.

Check out some photos from the Race Around Austria here

August 18, 2012

Team Sportkaiser passed after 3 days 14 hours 58 minutes the finish line. Congrats to both the riders and the crew. Great 2nd place after 2200 km of racing!

August 15, 2012

On our way! Rainer left St. Georgen at 10.04 am and so far he’s doing great. At 2.00 pm Team Sportkaiser also started into the Race around Austria.

August 14, 2012

Our pace car is ready and so are we. After the inspection and the race briefing we are almost in the race. Rainer Popp and Team Sport Kaiser are ready for the Race around Austria 2012. All the best to all the riders and crews and a successful race.

August 11, 2012

Great workshop in Linz with a fun group of triathletes. Nice job, guys!

July 26, 2012

We had one of our last meetings today before the Race around Austria. About 30 solo riders will start in August 15 to ride around Austria as fast as they can. I’m sure it’s going to be a wonderful experience with little sleep, hopefully only a few showers/storms but many new impressions of Austria.

July 21, 2012

We had an interesting workshop in the last 1.5 days in Vienna. I hope all the Austrian Paralympic athletes got the information they need in the next few weeks. I’ll see some athletes again before they fly into London but I wish the whole team a great time and lots of success in London. Hope to read many great stories from London!

July 17, 2012

Even though many Austrians head South and go abroad I don’t feel like holiday at all. Yesterday I was in Hall in Tyrol where we worked on the first steps for our workshops with the ski school of Stams. In cooperation with UMIT there will be workshops at the school for all the students.

And Friday & Saturday I will be in Vienna to talk to the Austrian Paralympic athletes to give them the last briefing in sports nutrition.

July 14, 2012

Manfred Putz successfully finished Peakbreak 2012 today! He made it back to Seeboden after 900 km and 18.000 m elevation and is the first athlete who finished this race with hand bike. After failing to qualify for the Paralympic Games 2012 in London he immediately focused on a new goal which was Peakbreak. He would’t have made it without his supporters but he is the real champ. When he arrived in Seeboden it was a very emotional moment for all of us. Congratulations, Manfred! What a great performance!

July 12, 2012

Manfred Putz is still doing the Peakbreak. Today he passed the  Kitzbüheler Horn and is getting very close to the finish in Seeboden on Saturday. The race is tough but he keeps his pace up and is still showing a fantastic performance. Manfred is using up lots of energy but so far energy supply and recovery are ok and he’s starting every day well recovered with the will to fight against the cock & the mountains and to give his best.

July 8, 2012

Today Manfred starts into his second day at Peakbreak. After his great first day he will surprise some more people along the route. The second stage will start in Arta Terme and finish in Brunico, South Tirol.

July 7, 2012 – 2

After 7 hours 21 minutes Manfred arrived at the finish on Mount Zoncolan. Here some impressions from day 1.

A very interesting meeting ended yesterday in San Francisco. During the ACSM meeting we also had our PINES-meeting and at the end of the day I went home as a new member of the global network group of PINES. Some of my new to do’s include to improve and organize the global network of sport nutrition so that for example sports dietitians will have less difficulties when their athletes travel and they’re looking for some information or contact in that destination. I’m looking forward to helping PINES and improving our global network!
